I have been hunting mushrooms since I was a little kid. I started out following dad around the woods when I could barely walk. Once I learned the main species that we were looking for, there was no mistaking them. But I have never tried looking for fall mushrooms for a variety of reasons. For one thing, I am usually busy chasing whitetails and crappie. Also, I wasn't aware that several species exist that have no lookalikes, taste delicious, and are readily available in my state. After speaking with Jake, a mushroom expert from Wisconsin, I now realize that I have been missing out. We discussed three main species of mushroom that are easily distinguishable and should be coming up this fall. Please use caution before you eat any wild mushroom!
