Our identity is something we cling to. It doesn’t matter that we know identity is temporary, I mean none of us hold the same values and identity that we did when we were 10. There is also the fact that change is the only constant in our lives. However, we still grapple with identity. From being a sibling, or parent, to having a career or a place we call home, all of that is merely how we identify at the moment. These, short order identities, can be some of the most important things to us, especially during difficult times. At some point, we will have to realize that Identity is simply what you feel like today, right now, and has nothing to do with who you are.

In this episode, I am talking with Miles Bingham, @TheSoberTrekker on Instagram. He certainly is a trekker, not only physically, traveling around the world experiencing landscapes most of us will only see in motivational posters, but also an internal trekker. You have to understand that Miles isn’t doing anything extraordinary. Everything he has done has come from paying attention and simply moving in the direction his attention leads him. Only a handful of years ago he was closed off and watching television just trying to get through another day, and today all of that is changed. This didn’t happen overnight, it took years, but it also only took a slight shift, maintained over time. That shift, even a shift as small as one degree, when maintained, makes an enormous difference over time.

I encourage everyone to follow @thesobertrekker on Instagram and enjoy his message of actively growing in sobriety. https://www.instagram.com/thesobertrekker/

Questions for Groups
- Can you name 3 identities that you once clung to but are no longer true? How has that changed you? Who would you be today if that didn't change?
- What is an identity you hold onto today? Is that an identity that can be challenged by others or circumstances?
- When you feel triggered, is your identity, of who you are or who you want to be, or be seen as, being challenged?

As my work suggests I am always looking to recover myself completely and my aim is to help others recover themselves. I see a client for a total of 4 sessions which is designed to launch self-directed lives and separate us from the constant draw of codependency. These start with my doing a portrait of my client. The portrait is an intimate experience, these open a vocabulary to trauma and are healing. This process is not for everyone and if you are not ready I will not work with you. It is important that you are ready to step into yourself and stop playing a victim cursed by things around you.
