Episode 198 Series: On the Mission Field - 21 In this installment of the On the Mission Field series, we interview the O'Briens to Ukraine. John and his wife Cathy have dedicated their lives to reaching the lost souls of eastern Ukraine. Despite the horrors following the 2022 invasion and at great personal cost, they refused to leave, continuing to provide help, comfort, supplies, and the gospel to the people of the region. Understandably, most missionaries have fled. With so many lives lost, so many homes destroyed, and so many families bereft of hope and security, people are now more open to spiritual truth. John and Cathy stand in the gap, serving the Lord and being the vessels through whom God continues to shower grace on the Ukrainians. Additionally, their ministries to the deaf and to military servicemembers are thriving amidst the chaos. Though they did not initially set out to minister to these people groups, God equipped and commissioned them for it. It is famous as the hometown of Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company, as well as for its status as the city with the largest Muslim population in the country. It also has the largest mosque in the nation. With these stats, we may be tempted to engage through fleshly predispositions. David Gates, however, explains in this interview how Dearborn is no different from any other U.S. city, and how a love for Christ and for souls will help us override those predispositions and see the lost souls behind the mosques, the hijabs, or the calls to prayer. In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast we talk with recurring guest Shawn Henly about the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), a worldwide college campus organization that claims it seeks to establish and advance witnessing opportunities of students and faculty. If that sounds a bit like Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), you would be right. But what many of us do not realize is that these organizations, though established with good intentions, are completely infiltrated with unbiblical ideologies like feminism, woke-ism, and racism. We must expose these things to encourage reform and repentance. Chile is a long, narrow, beautiful strip of land in South America spanning from the base of Peru all the way down to the tip of the continent, and jumping the ocean to claim certain parts of Antartica. The people groups are diverse, but the need is the same: a saving faith and growing relationship with the Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ. Geoffrey Fahringer would have never in a million years seen himself as a missionary because he was far along the path of military service and law enforcement. But after the Lord saved him, it became increasingly clear that God had plans for his family in that beautiful country. Geoffrey and his family surrendered, and today we get to hear all about what God has been doing to bring a gospel witness to the people there. Episode 189 Series: What Do You Believe – 5 Hinduism is the world's third largest religion, surpassed only by Islam and Christianity. Having originated in the Indian subcontinent over 2,500 years ago, Hinduism is practiced by more than one billion people worldwide, 96% percent of which live in India. Hinduism came under the neon lights of American public discourse and scrutiny with Vivek Ramaswamy's candidacy for president in the 2024 election (see episode 142). What is Hinduism, and what do Hindus believe? Is it compatible with Christianity or does it stand in stark contrast? On this episode of the Removing Barrier podcast, we sit down with Jacob to answer these questions and come to a better understanding of that faith. Jacob is a stalwart Christian and, having been born and raised in India, has a more thorough understanding of Hinduism and how it differs from Christianity. Episode 187 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:14, John 1:12-13) Our deepest desire here at the Removing Barriers Podcast is to remove those barriers that keep us from having a clear view of the cross. The enemy is hard at work with diversions, distractions, lies, and traps to keep us from the truth. We don't need a bad meme to know that of all the nations on earth, the United States is the only one with the right to keep and bear arms enshrined in the law of the land with absolutely no restrictions. There are more guns than people in the U.S., and the number of gun owners in any other nation pales in comparison. But the United States is also in significant moral decline, and the absolute tragedy of preventable gun violence is a harrowing reality that demands attention. What that attention should be, however, is hotly contested with no real resolution in sight. Though the problem is complex and multi-faceted, one area seems to be gaining steam, namely, the prosecution of parents for gun violence committed by their children. Whether for a school shooting or a single person attack, parents have been indicted, tried, convicted, and sentenced for a crime they did not commit. Is this right? Should parents be responsible for major crimes their children commit? In what ways are parents responsible for the safety of their children and others when it comes to firearms?
