In this episode, Stacey sits down with Kirsty Nancarrow, a former ABC journalist and chief of staff who shares her compelling journey, from being a frontline journalist exposed to daily trauma to prioritising her mental health and starting her media training business.

She highlights the vital importance of video content in today's digital age, the drastic transformation of journalism over the years, and how sales people can leverage this in a marketplace where buyers are more reluctant than ever to speak with a sales person.

Kirsty speaks candidly about her battle with depression and PTSD while leading a team, how resilience and a supportive network helped her overcome these challenges and how leaders experiencing mental health challenges can best look after themselves and their team.

About Kirsty:

Kirsty Nancarrow was born with a pen in her hand, and a passion for storytelling and people. She started her journalism career on her local newspaper in Sydney at age 18 and she has been in the media industry for almost 30 years. Kirsty worked in Communications roles in Australia and the UK and had a 15-year career with the ABC, before starting her own business as a media trainer. She is now a Co-Director of eMotion Video Training & Production, which empowers people to share their stories through video and the media. eMotion Video won the 2023 Cairns Business Women’s Club Collaboration of the Year Award and was recently named the Best Video & Media Training Company in Queensland in the international 2023 Media Innovator Awards.

In 2016, Kirsty developed depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder related to her coverage of traumatic events as a journalist. She sought a new purpose and started to heal during a month volunteering as a teacher at the Batase School in remote Nepal, which was destroyed in the 2015th earthquakes. It has led to her writing her first book, Himalayan Dreams: The Story of Som Tamang which will be published in March 2024.

Kirsty loves cooking, travel, and salsa dancing, and lives in Cairns with her husband and Alice Springs rescue dog, Billie.
