Here in epi six, we come across a guy I see in my neighborhood from time to time. He’s usually sweeping or picking up trash in alleys. I thought this was awesome, so I set out to find him and talk to him since he was doing the opposite of what many of the homeless people do. And even though the cleaning turned out to be fueled by crystal meth, I’m sure there are plenty of people on the streets doing meth that don’t clean up stuff everywhere. He was vocal about his religion, but later stated he hadn’t read the bible. Regardless, it still seems his beliefs might be making him better off than without them. He enjoys singing and unexpectedly belted out a few lines for me. And like many homeless men we speak to, he misses an ex-wife and children deeply. He also mentions how he met Satan and how he turned obese from a wardrobe change.

Unfortunately his use of language regarding race irritated me and sort of killed my respect I guess. I had a go for a bit at trying to convey how he shouldn’t use certain words to describe a person or situation. It was futile to say the least. I’m not a doctor, but perhaps the meth use is effecting him mentally. I understand that I don’t know what he’s been through in his life, but I just couldn’t get past the racial language, and now I don’t feel the same when I see him cleaning up an alley. I’m only human.
