The Journal of Investigative Medicine’s Editor in Chief Dr. McCallum welcomes Dr. Samrat Das in this episode. Dr. Das is an Associate Professor at Duke University School of Medicine and Director of both Pediatric Undergraduate Medical Education and Duke Childrens Hospital’s Procedural Sedation Unit. He informs us what it takes to fundraise for science and research through lobbying and asking for more funding for NIH and NSF. Dr. Das talked about how inflation can affect operations along with the need to increase research to support marginalized populations as examples of why there is a need for increased funds year after year. The team of researchers where he is the AFMR representative presented their case to the decision-makers and Dr. Das gave us a summary.
