In the 1980s, there were only 63 Black films by, for, or about Black Americans. But in the 1990s, that number quadrupled, with 220 Black films making their way to cinema screens nationwide. What sparked this “Black New Wave?” Who blazed this path for contemporaries like Ava DuVernay, Kasi Lemmons and Jordan Peele? And how did these films transform American culture as a whole? Lian Dolan and Julie Dolan recap the PBS drama Poldark. It's the Season 3 Premiere and we are ready for Puffy Shirts and Slo-Motion Scything! Two hours of pounding seas and galloping horses and dewey-skinned maids. Poldark is back! And don’t think we’re not still mad at your Ross—because we ARE. Maybe Demelza forgives you for the sake of the series, but we can still be bitter about your dalliance with Elizabeth. And mainly we’re mad because Elizabeth looks beautiful, even while giving birth. Very quick recap of two hours: Ross and Demelza have reached a détente—but it’s an uneasy one with the borth fo Elizabeth’s child approaching. In classic soap opera fashion—is it Ross’s baby? Or it is Goerge’s baby—her new detestable husbands? Dr. Ennis and Caroline continue to delight with their wrong side of the tracks love story and secretly marry—but because of freaking Elizabeth going into labor, they can not consummate the marriage. Meanwhile, everyone’s dying. Demelza's awful, father; Caroline's lovable but grumpy old uncle and possibly Elizabeth and the baby—who comes 5 weeks early. Ahem. It’s a lunar eclipse and that brings out the Crazy in Aunt Agnes who curses the baby. Demelza’s two brothers show up after Awful Dad dies and start working in the mines and preaching ot the people. This looks to be a good storyline introducing the young bucks—Drake and Sam. And lucky for Drake that Elizabeth has an impoverished niece who shows up to nanny for Geoffrey Charles. We think her name is Morwenna. Watch out, Elizabeth—because Dewey skinned beauty has met her match. Verity arrives for the Valentine’s baptism and we love her. Then everybody nearly deis or possibly dies again—Dr. Ennis in the Navy and Verity’s husband—Captain Old guy. Ross turns down a job to be magistrate and heads off to France to find Dr. Ennis. And a Pirate shows up! Arghhhh. We have NO IDEA what this Captain Hook is saying. Finally, Demelza stares out at the sea… and she's preggers!
