On todays episode we are speaking to survivor, motivational speaker and army veteran Vanessa Morbeck. Along with her time in the army, she went on to become a law enforcement officer (the first federal law enforcement officer in her family), she is the first female veteran in her family, the first to obtain a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Although these are spectacular accomplishments, Vanessa has suffered from military sexual trauma (MST), PTSD, attempted suicide, divorce, domestic violence, homelessness, and the loss of 3 of her 4 children. Despite these horrific situations, Vanessa finds her courage by using her platform to give people in similar situations hope so they don’t feel so alone.
We speak about Vanessa’s experience within the military, specifically her sexual trauma. It’s something we need to speak out about more as it occurs more often than we’d like to think. Not only the act itself, but the retaliation that comes from speaking out against the perpetrator. What happened when Vanessa reported her abuse? What advice would she give to those service men and women finding themselves in the same position as she did? We discuss these things and more during this episode.
Vanessa's story is hard to hear, but it is one that people need to sit back and listen to. We are so blessed to have her on our show and grateful for her bravery by bringing her story to our listeners. Even more so, we are astounded by her courage and fight to bring hope to those in similar situations.
