#14 - Respect, Racism, Wolf Sanctuaries, Sustainable Living, and the Aloha Spirit With Caden Waidyatilleka

Caden Waidyatillika is a really genuine and kind friend of mine I met while I was on Oahu. Our mothers grew up together and so when I went to live on Oahu for a bit, meeting him was like already having a bit of family out on the islands. The first thing I noticed about him, was how connected with the environment and how intentional he is about preserving and protecting it. Anytime we couldn’t meet up, it was usually because he was tending to their garden which he’s walled up with bricks made of plastic he’s collected or making lilikoi bars from the fruit they grew. He sees issues impacting our earth, and wants to help. One other thing that was striking, that I ask about first, is that Caden and his twin brother grew up with different skin colors, which, in Hawaii, leads to different childhoods. Here, we talk about a bunch of interesting topics including racism and respect in the Hawaiian islands, his experience working in wolf sanctuaries in Colorado and volunteering through Central America, and his passion for trying to create and teach about a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly earth.
