Episode 95 | Executive Loneliness | With Nick Jonsson
Manage episode 330113400 series 2847464
We discuss the smiling depression felt by executives and experienced by Nick himself. This is when you appear happy and successful at work but inside it's a very different situation.
In his book, Executive Loneliness, Nick shares how he was dependent on alcohol, and/or valium, and lorazepam, and could not go without such substances for 24 hours, and how he felt as if he was going to die.
Nick feels that executive loneliness still isn’t openly talked about, sufferers don’t discuss it with their partners, and friends and certainly not with those they spend most of their time with, at work.
Nick shares his personal story of executive loneliness and how he got through it, and how he now helps others to prevent them from feeling this way.
We also discuss:
- Practical tips for overcoming executive loneliness
- Why vulnerability is a strength
- The importance of having a mentor
- The traits of a great leader
- Why the fear of judgment impacted Nick
