Welcome to The Career Guide Podcast!

The Career Guide Podcast is a behind-the-scenes conversation with professionals who have managed to develop long-term careers overseas with organizations like the United Nations, EU, NATO, and OSCE. The goal of this interview series is not to provide technical details and advice already covered in this course but to hear from career professionals about the experiences, challenges, and life as an international professional.

Today we’re talking with Martin Cunningham. Martin is a competency-based interview specialist who does a lot of work in terms of interview preparation for others and specifically to help people identify their roles. He does a lot of work with executive and career interview coaching specific to you and your needs. Martin successfully guides his clients on sustainable career planning and interview technique.

Martin started competency based interviewing as a company, following all the successes he had in recent years with friends and colleagues, most of whom, following Brexit ,suggested that he should take it up as a career move, as his EU career had come to a very abrupt and unforeseen end.

Martin's background is in policing, as he spent many years in both military and civil police force in the UK, then he went to Afghanistan to support the efforts of setting up the Afghan National Police Staff College. Later in his career, he served for many years in Kosovo, and in 2020-2021 he returned to Afghanistan where he served as an Adviser to the Head of Police Operations.
