Welcome to The Career Guide Podcast!

The Career Guide Podcast is a behind-the-scenes conversation with professionals who have managed to develop long-term careers overseas with organizations like the United Nations, EU, NATO, and OSCE. The goal of this interview series is not to provide technical details and advice already covered in this course but to hear from career professionals about the experiences, challenges, and life as an international professional.

Today we’re talking with Rawan Taha. Rawan most recently worked at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Zambia as a Programme Analyst where she contributed to different sectors of development through eclectic programmes and projects. She was part of the cohort of the African Young Women Leaders Fellowship. A joint fellowship between the UNDP and the African Union Commission to employ, empower and equip young women to become agents of change. Her work focused on two aspects of development: building inclusive and sustainable cities and promoting gender equality. Rawan has an advanced certificate of African studies that she obtained through the National Training Academy in Egypt. She has a Masters degree in Public Health from Swansea University in the UK. Through her various roles as an Arab and African leader, Rawan desires to portray female Africans in a positive light as powerful and courageous catalysts for change particularly in the sectors of diplomacy and development. She envisions a long managerial career within the United Nations where she continues to work on reforming Africa and building the humanitarian-development nexus. Rawan is here with us today to share her experiences and ideas about international careers.
