Part 1:
We talk with Jon Rosenthal, State Representative from Houston, Tx. , home to 4.7 Million residents.
We discuss the effects of Beryl, the first major hurricane of the 2024 season. There has been a lack of planning on the part of local and state governments in Texas, and in Harris County, which includes the city of Houston. Delays in asking for federal help, the problem with Texas' power grid, which is unregulated. 2.5 million people were without power during the storm, and the heat 100 degrees F). There were at least 7 deaths.
Part 2:
We talk with Bill Curry and Ryan Cooper about grocery prices, and other prices. Kroger and Albertson's are merging, and the outlook will likely not improve.
There has been opportunistic price raising. The small staff available to enforce anti-trust regulations has done well, though it is difficult. The profits of retailers are at all time highs.
