The plaintiff rented his apartment to the defendants, who are his niece and her husband. He says they stopped paying rent and he tried to evict them, but they moved out before he could. He claims they made a huge mess and threw a chair through a window. He’s suing for rent and damages. The defendants argue the apartment contained lead paint, and their son ate it. They argue they’ve paid rent and never damaged it. They’re countersuing for losses and emotional distress.

Then, the plaintiff says the defendant did tree work on his neighbor’s property, and the defendant drove his large truck on his lawn. He claims the defendant caused damage to his lawn that he was redoing, so he’s suing. The defendant argues he looked at the lawn and didn’t see any damage, so he doesn’t think he owes.

Plus, the plaintiff brought his car to the defendant for an oil change. He says the defendant’s car shop put the wrong oil filter in the car, and his engine blew. He’s suing for the cost of a new engine. The defendant argues the plaintiff’s car is 16 years old, and he did everything correctly, so he doesn’t owe anything.
