What does it take for a champion dad to build a champion son? For Nate Carr, winning was something he learned after growing up in a family of 13 kids. He had the foundation he needed to appreciate healthy competition while having his wins rooted in faith.

When it was time for him to build his own family, he knew that he needed to coach his son not just in the pursuit of athletic excellence, but also in the pursuit of a faithful life. Under his guidance, David thrived in different areas of life while marking his own path.

Today, Nate is working together with his son to shape him to be the best adult and athlete that he can be. In this episode, Nate and David talk about their relationship as father and son and how they work together in faith to become the champions Christ has meant for them to be.

"It’s easy to say you want to be the best in the business. It’s easy to say you want to be a national champion. But then when you have to go through the growing pains, not a lot of people want to go through it.” - David Carr

Resources Mentioned:

  • 1 Corinthians 9:25-27 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
  • Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
  • Psalm 139:15-16 When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there—you saw me before I was born.
  • Galatians 1:15 But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him.
  • Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
  • Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
  • Hebrews 2:1-3 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
