Release News: The first single of my new album drops on January 31st . Save it here on Spotify! Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Jim Kroft Podcast – you’re so very welcome here! In this podcast, I explore the insights, breakthroughs, pitfalls, and eureka moments I experience as I navigate creative life. Whether it's through my film and photography work, as a podcast host and avid Substack writer, or this year – as I pursue my desperate dream of returning to music. In Today’s Episode: I explore the pivotal moments of writing my new album – overcoming writer’s block, embracing a DIY spirit, and adopting a self-reliant attitude. I’ll also share how I’m releasing the music after a year writing and recording (while juggling freelance life!) Recognizing the chapter I’m in within my story has been instrumental in overcoming the demons of self-doubt and questioning that plagued me during the early stages of this project. This realization inspired me to deepen the concept of viewing our lives as stories, with each project representing a unique chapter. I've noticed that much online life advice is AI-sanitized, stripping away individuality, the authentic mistakes that make one's life story believable, and the foundation for creating a meaningful impact. It’s crucial to recognize the chapter we’re in and ensure we’re telling our authentic stories – if the world is going to listen. Each chapter has a purpose – what is that purpose, and how do we reach it? Low energy vs mountainous work is a bad equation. This collision course can trigger emotional black holes. Remember: This is the season to embrace the dip rather than resist it. Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Podcast! ( All the music today is my own and you can find on Spotify ) Ever feel like you can’t quite get to yourself? Nietzsche said it well: “Haste is universal because everyone is in flight from himself.” Sometimes, our busyness hides a deeper escape from who we really are. On a flight to Dubai, I caught myself in this very escape, preparing for an intense stretch of work. It’s a familiar rhythm for anyone balancing creativity with client demands. We find a groove where “life works with us”—until it shifts unexpectedly, pulling us back into chaos. This week, I’m exploring a paradox: the more we try to control, the further we get from it. Real growth, I’m learning, happens when we surrender control, even when it feels impossible. This episode is for creatives who balance passion with work demands. We’ll explore how embracing chaos can be your superpower and why surrendering to life’s unpredictability can unlock new creative flow. Highlights: 🌀 Navigating Control vs. Chaos: Discover why unpredictability might be your secret weapon. 🎭 Balancing Being and Doing: Learn how aligning who you are with what you do fuels sustainable creativity. 🌊 Surrendering to the Unexpected: Find out why letting go can be the ultimate unlock. 🚧 Turning Resistance into Growth: See how tasks you avoid can lead to breakthroughs. 💪 Strength Beyond Limitations: Tap into a resolve that fuels work and self. Even when we feel lost, there’s a path to clarity. When we surrender to what life brings, we find strength beyond our limits—a resolve that fuels our work and sense of self. Hello, everyone, and welcome to “The Jim Kroft Podcast,” where I explore creative life, the digital economy, and how we can grow as individuals in this bonkers modern world. Today, I’m buzzing to share a special episode—my first podcast recorded in New York City—with legendary music producer and psychedelic troubadour Gordon Raphael. Gordon's groundbreaking work with The Strokes helped define the sound of the early 2000s, and his influence still resonates in the music world today. I've known Gordon since 2007, and this conversation was recorded right after he produced my new song "Wicked Things" at Mercy Sound Studios. Gordon is a true maverick with a journey that spans the cultural hubs of New York, Berlin, and London. His life has seen incredible highs and lows, but through it all, he's remained guided by the North Star of his creativity. In this episode, Gordon holds nothing back, sharing insights on: 🎧 Bringing out the best in musicians in the studio 🌍 How musicians can break through in the social media age 💡 Navigating addiction and recovery 📱 His "secret sauce" for surviving in the arts 🎙️ Living life on life’s terms On a personal note , this episode is significant for me—not just because it’s my first recorded in New York but also because it follows an epic day in the studio with Gordon at Mercy Sound Studios in the East Village. It’s the culmination of a long-standing friendship that began in Berlin in 2007 and has seen us through many creative projects, including the “Boat for Sarah” project during the Refugee Crisis. Okay, it’s time to meet the one and only Gordon Raphael. Are you ready? Then, let’s dive in! Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Podcast! Today's episode dives into a pivotal concept in my work life: "The Holiness of One Good Hour." While others might label it a hack, I consider it holy. Why? Because our moods, motivations, and commitments fluctuate daily on our journey. We are always just a moment away from turning things around, but many of us fall into the trap of believing the day is lost once we hit a rut or bad rhythm. To me, "one good hour" represents the power of a clear visualization, reminding me that I'm always on the verge of a breakthrough. Often, we remain stuck because our mood spirals, draining the energy needed for change. However, by seeing each hour as an opportunity, we can let go of what's past, recommit to a clear task, and promise ourselves that the next hour will be our best. As someone who frequently works alone, whether editing film, songwriting, or making a podcast, the idea of "one good hour" is a constant blessing. It's a concept that supports me every day, and I hope you find it beneficial as well. If you'd like to watch as a video, you can find it on my YouTube in the link below. Thanks for all your support, everyone. If you have a moment to leave a rating and review for the podcast, I'd be so very grateful! Welcome to "The Jim Kroft Podcast," where I explore the convergence of creativity and the digital economy. Over the last year, I've spoken to many people: experts in their fields seasoned professionals those just starting out I've noticed that many have a particular project they've never started, always dreamed of initiating, or feel so stuck they experience a mental block about making the first step. One of my strengths is that I'm a great initiator. I know how to turn an idea into reality, whether in music, film, photography, podcasting, or freelance life. For that reason, I wanted to make an episode where I draw from my knowledge for anyone struggling to start a project. What are the nuts and bolts of a project? What are the actual steps you need to take? How can you prepare yourself psychologically for action? As such, this episode is called: How to Start a Creative Project from Scratch In it, I'm excited to share a step-by-step method to overcome creative paralysis and kickstart your next project. Here are the fundamental steps: Clarify One Thing: Focus on a single goal to channel your energy effectively. Start a New Journal: Begin fresh with a dedicated journal for your project. Brainstorm: Embrace chaos and log ideas without judgment. The List of 5: Pick 5 specific tasks daily to maintain focus. A Thing a Day: Commit 10 minutes daily to build consistency. Build a Sequence Chain: Use the brainstorm, list, and log method to create a feedback loop. Kill the Excuses: Resolve to stop making excuses and commit to your goal. Prioritize the Priority: Always focus on the most important task first. Bring People on the Journey: Share your progress and journey with others. The 30-Day Challenge: Commit to 30 days of consistent effort. I have put a lot of effort into the video for this episode, with both text, visuals, and film footage from my own life and projects.
