When the pressure of life overwhelms us, we naturally want to hide. While we all hide in different ways, we are all seeking relief from the intensity of our emotions. We trick ourselves into believing that if we can numb or escape, we can pretend that the pain and the pressure don’t exist.

And while these methods can work in the short term, these patterns of coping only threaten our relationships with others and intensify our shame. In this episode, I will share how I learned to trust God in the moment with my overwhelming emotions. You’ll discover how you can learn to appreciate your emotions and allow them to drive you to healthy action that will also free you from the grip of shame.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • The difference between a trauma response and numbing and escaping
  • Why it’s normal to struggle to find healthy examples of dealing with shame
  • How to appreciate your emotion as a tool and a resource instead of a handicap
  • Examples of ways to take action when you feel attacked by shame
  • How choosing to numb and escape prevents us from experiencing fulfilling relationships
