Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL WITH COLLEEN Are you looking for a mindful drinking coach instead of a sobriety program? I can help you reduce your drinking by 80 percent so you don't have to quit. You'll walk away with a clear understanding of why you're struggling and what tools you need to achieve your goals.

Are you in the habit of beating yourself up and trying to willpower your way into being a better person?

Most high achieving women who use alcohol to cope with their stress are caught in a cycle of punishment and reward. They work hard and believe they deserve to play hard. And when they overdo it, they actually embrace their shame because they believe that feeling bad will motivate them to do better.

The problem with using shame to motivate yourself to drink less is that when you get it right, the shame disappears--taking with it the motivation to make a new habit out of your good behavior. The cycle is frustrating and exhausting because it’s unpredictable. You can’t ever be certain that you can trust yourself.

Being unable to trust yourself is the crux of alcohol use disorder. The shame and guilt undermine your sense of self worth and motivation in other areas of your life. You go from feeling like a woman who is capable of doing anything you set your mind to someone who just wants to get through the day. Long term goals get farther and farther away.

Continuing to focus on the problem makes the problem worse. In this episode, you’ll learn the three elements of self-compassion…which are mindfulness, kindness and recognizing your humanity. I’ll explain the science that reveals that the secret to change is allowing yourself to be where you’re at.
