3. The Parenting Style That Took Me From Resentful and Burnt-out to Thriving
Manage episode 407505670 series 3561425
A mother in one of the mom's group I hosted suggested I would really like the book Hunt Gather Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff, but at the time she suggested it I was too busy to listen. I was later prompted to read the book and it has revolutionized my parenting and my life. It's taken me from resentful, angry and burnt out to happier, healthier, and thriving.
Michaeleen went to live with 3 different intact indigenous cultures and learnt their best parenting techniques and she has weaved it together into what she calls TEAM parenting.
In this episode I share some of the gold nuggets I learnt from the book and how it has shifted our family system.
What You Will Learn:
- the benefits of weaving your child into the housework and daily adult activities of life
- how chores can become play and the benefit of that
- what shifted as we moved from child centric to family centric
- I reflect on the question "Are we raising children to be children to be helpful cooperative community minded adults?"
- what are conscequence puzzles and how they inspire intrinsic motivation
- how I fill my cup AND spend time with my child
