About Dave
I was raised in Sacramento, California, then attended UCLA (BA degree in 1992), and Fuller Theological Seminary (MA degree in 1997). Upon completing grad school in 1997 I took a position with a faith-based non-profit organization, Servant Partners, which focuses on community building and poverty alleviation both in the USA and internationally. I worked for Servant Partners for 22 years, until 2019. For seven of those years, I lived and worked internationally in India and in Bangladesh.
In 2019 I transitioned to Speak Up for the Poor (which is also a non-profit organization but is not a religious or faith-based org). For the past four years I have served as Director of Development with Speak Up. I help to raise awareness of and funds for Speak Up's Girls Education Program in Bangladesh, which helps girls from impoverished backgrounds who are vulnerable to child marriage (and in some cases child trafficking) to stay in school through college graduation.
I have been married for 19 years to my wife Mini (20th anniversary coming up this April!), and we have two daughters, Lily (age 16) and Emily (age 14). We have lived in Long Beach, CA for the past 16 years.
About Speak Up

In Speak Up we have a sponsorship model which allows anyone who wishes to get involved and partner with us in educating and empowering vulnerable girls. The average cost for a girl or young woman to participate in the GEP is $40 per month. (This covers school fees, school uniform, books and materials, daily after school tutoring and mentoring from our staff, and monthly grade-level trainings on life skills and professional skills. For young women in college, there is also an opportunity to live in our college dormitory, which provides room and board in the city, in close proximity to local colleges and nursing schools, while young women in the GEP pursue their higher education.) Those who wish to partner with us can either contribute any amount toward our overall work, or they can sign up to sponsor a specific girl in the GEP for $40 per month. Sponsors receive specific information and updates about the girl they are sponsoring (her name, photos of her, her grade in school, birthdate, her "dream" of what she would like to become through her education, etc.). Sponsors also receive letters from their sponsored girl, and can write letters and send photos back to her, to build a personal connection.
Those interested in contributing or sponsoring can do so o
