18. Virginia Sorensen biographer Stephen Carter
Manage episode 357914036 series 3450311
In honor of Women's History Month, in this episode we discuss the life of Virginia Sorensen: Pioneering Mormon Author, with her biographer, Steven Carter. Though Sorensen was a New York Times bestselling author and winner of the prestigious Newbery Medal, this is the first biography written about her fascinating life and work. Carter contextualizes his subject among the literary greats of the twentieth century. Raised as a Mormon in rural Utah, Sorensen graduated from BYU with a degree in journalism. Though, like her contemporary Fawn Brodie, Sorensen fell away from Latter-day Saint orthodoxy, her novels explore and are informed by Mormon themes and history.
