The North sea spread itself
across the carriage window.
Unexpectedly. At least for me.
And two Americans, reflexively
take a photo.
Just like that.
And me: awkwardly sat
just watching the late glow
of morning sun on sea
spread flat. One big
blue yoga mat uncurled,
its far edge up against Denmark.
And passing without remark:
my morning unfurled
just like that.

I only wade slowly
into dreaming. Fading in.
It’s tough. And fleeting.
Playing at rest
but never deep enough, but
if you can, just like that
fall fast into sleep
while moving, it’s a skill to keep.
A skill I don’t possess, but
I’m glad the sea passed us
while I was up.

and cafe proprietor,
My room's not ready
so I'll try to be a writer.
(It helps if you wear a hat.)
Customer, nineteen
wants white tea. Just like that.
And when she leaves: white tea!
Can you believe her? He says to me.
Well, anyway
his coffee isn't great either. He says:
Is there something more you'd like? -No,
just that.
