Synopsis:
Lady Mary Harrington, the Dowager Countess of Ashford, would love to say that everything is going well in her life. Her son is newly married, her daughter is shining brighter than ever, and a new season approaches with the promise of a fresh start in society.
But the ghost of her past haunts Mary and threatens every ray of happiness in her life. When strange letters addressed to her son begin arriving, her only hope is a detective hired for another job.
Mr. Hugh Bexley knows he is in for a headache when he takes on the Earl of Ashford's case, but he doesn't expect for Lady Ashford to insert herself into every facet of his case. Followed like a shadow by the Dowager Countess, Hugh struggles to ignore a torrent of emotions he feels for his unlikely apprentice investigator. Now he must solve the mystery of the unknown letters before losing either his sanity or his heart to Mary Harrington.
