This week P Sam spoke on guidance in our prayer life. Prayer is communication with God. Sometimes we treat prayer like a megaphone to God, to tell God of our needs and asking God to cover us for our planned activities. But prayer is a two way communication. We need to strive for connection with God and wait on God’s answer. In this way God can work on our hearts and even alter what we may pray for.

One method of approaching prayer is the acronym “ACTS”, including the following in our prayers:

A- adoration

C- confession

T- thanksgiving

S- supplication

We need to ask God what his plans are. Jesus himself says (John 5:19 NIV) “"Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”

Our prayer life is an opportunity to build a relationship with God. Through prayer, God will equip us and teach us through the Holy Spirit on how to address the different circumstances in our lives (Philippians 4:6-7, Proverbs 3:5-6, Luke 11:8, Mark 9:25, John 14:26)

God is our father, and wants a relationship with us, and our prayer lives should reflect our attempt to further deepen our relationship with God. We need to reorientate our prayer lives away from a focus on ourselves to a focus on alignment with God’s perspective.
