Join me in conversation with Caroline Sekaquaptewa, a 47 year old Hopi woman from Sipaulovi, Arizona. She is from the Patkiwungwa (Water) clan. Caroline is a mother of four daughters: Jaime, Jelani, Jaya, and Makenna and grandmother to one grandson. She resides in the Phoenix area and is an Early Childhood Educator and has taught in a family literacy program located on the Salt RIver Pima Maricopa Indian Community for 17 years. Caroline has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Bilingual/ Multicultural Education, and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

Caroline comes from the Hopi tribe, who have a strong cultural connection to running. She has been a runner since elementary school and was a part of state championship teams at Hopi High School. She ran in junior college for a brief time, and later resumed running as a Mom.

Caroline comes from a physically active family. The family participates and supports each other in runs, triathlons, and basketball games. She participates in triathlons with family and friends, and has completed the Ironman Arizona race four times. Caroline is a 8 time Boston Marathon finisher and has also run the Chicago and Los Angeles marathons. Caroline has competed in races from 5K to 55K, on roads and trails, and truly enjoys the physical challenges of endurance sports.
