Mark Hamill Has Weighed in on the Carrie Fisher Replacement Debate With all of the controversy regarding the possibility of recasting the character of Princess Leia in Episode IX, and the recent petition calling for Meryl Streep to take on the role, it’s time to hear what Mark Hamill has to say about it. In an interview with Collider.com, Hamill said, "First of all I don't know what the specific plans were for that character but just the way Han Solo [Harrison Ford] was more prominent in seven, Luke more prominent in eight, we assumed Leia would be more prominent in nine, especially since the dynamic of having Kylo Ren [Adam Driver] as her son. I think it would be tough recasting Carrie because she is so indelibly linked to that character.” http://host.madison.com/entertainment/movies/mark-hamill-thinks-recasting-carrie-fisher-in-star-wars-would/article_737e1ba0-75a8-54f2-aa6d-a294197883b9.html According to One Star Wars Actor, JJ Abrams Wanted Rey’s Parents to Matter Simon Pegg, who played Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens, revealed on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused, what he believes JJ Abrams plan for Rey’s parentage. Pegg said, “There was some talk about, you know, a kind of relevant lineage for her. But I honestly don’t know, and I don’t know if anybody knows. We shall see.” Maybe JJ will find a way to twist this idea again in Episode IX. https://www.gq.com/story/star-wars-jj-abrams-maybe-didnt-want-reys-parents-to-be-nobodies Rian Johnson Has Revealed His Goal for His New Star Wars Trilogy The writer/director of The Last Jedi has faced more than his fair share of backlash over the past few months. And if he fulfills his dreams for his future trilogy, that criticism is likely to snowball. In an interview with DigitalSpy.com, Johnson described the basic hope for this new trilogy: Really, the only goal I have is to think about how Star Wars made me feel as a kid. And that's it. I'm trying to capture: what is that, if it's not iconography that we recognize, necessarily, from the original trilogy? What captures that spirit? What can be that for a kid who's never heard of Star Wars? It's getting back to the very fundamental questions of what makes this what it is.” http://www.starwars.com/news/happy-beeps-download-print-starwars-com-exclusive-star-wars-the-last-jedi-blu-ray-covers Today in Star Wars History: On this date in 2004, StarWars.com announced the worldwide Episode III release date of May 19, 2005… except for Japan which had to wait until July.
