The Sacred Texts of the Jedi Order Might Hold More Secrets in Episode IX Yahoo.com posted an article this weekend that explores some of the origin ideas behind the “sacred texts” featured in The Last Jedi. The article compares the island of Ahch-To, where the first Jedi Temple was located and the Jedi books were kept, to the Qumran caves located in the Dead Sea region of Israel, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered 70 years ago. In fact, the text that was briefly seen in the film, was a combination of Semitic and Ruinic letters, rather than the standard galactic basic language known as Aurebesh. And while the ancient words of the Jedi Order were hardly seen in The Last Jedi, the article suggests that JJ Abrams may have a much larger role in Episode IX for the books that Rey hid away on the Millennium Falcon. Rick Heinrichs, production designer for The Last Jedi is quoted in the article as saying, “There definitely is something there...You saw at the end of the film that those texts are preserved, and I think it would actually be fantastic to get into what they contain and I hope that J.J. does that.” We’ll find out in December of 2019. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/last-jedi-tells-us-first-jedi-star-wars-history-lesson-212705367.html Daisy Ridley and Domnhall Gleeson Say Episode IX Will Go in Unexpected Directions Daisy Ridley and Domnhall Gleeson are trolling Star Wars fans again. The co-stars of Peter Rabbit jokingly discussed their roles in The Last Jedi by saying that neither of them had even heard from JJ Abrams yet. Ridley acted surprised when she was asked about Episode IX and said, “Is there a sequel?...I’ve heard nothing about it. I hopefully will soon.” But Ridley went on to say, “It’s interesting, because after [The Force Awakens] came out we literally went straight into [The Last Jedi], so there was no time to think about it. And now...I wonder what I’m going to be doing for six months…?” Gleeson, who plays General Hux said, “I have no idea what direction he’ll take it in, or even if he’ll use me...And I’ve got a feeling that what JJ does may also be unexpected.” http://www.radiotimes.com/news/film/2018-03-16/jj-abrams-star-wars-episode-ix-will-go-in-unexpected-directions/ Rian Johnson Compares the Opening to The Last Jedi to a Monty Python Sketch In the director’s commentary feature on the home release for The Last Jedi, writer/director Rian Johnson gives greater insight into the opening exchange between Poe Dameron and General Hux. Johnson says, “I really wanted this movie to be fun. I love the tone that [screenwriters] J.J. [Abrams], Michael [Arndt] and Larry [Kasdan] set with The Force Awakens, and the tone of the original films has a spirit of fun to it. I felt like, at the very beginning, we had to kinda break the ice and say we’re gonna have fun here. We’re gonna try some fun stuff, and it’s gonna be okay to laugh in this movie. So we started with a little Monty Python sketch.” https://lrmonline.com/news/rian-johnson-explains-the-opening-gag-in-the-last-jedi Today in Satr Wars History: John Mollo, costume designer for Star Wars: A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, was born on this date in 1931.
