The secretary-general of the United Nations (UN) is deeply saddened to learn of the death of one member of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security and the injury of another when their UN vehicle was hit as they were on their way to the European hospital in Rafah on Monday, said Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for António Guterres.
In the past 24 hours, the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has killed at least 82 people and injured 234, a significantly higher daily toll than those recorded in recent weeks, the Palestinian Health Ministry said Tuesday. According to the health ministry's most recent tally, 35,173 people have died and 79,061 have been injured since the start of the Israeli genocide on October 7.
Brazilian authorities reported on Monday that due to the rains that hit the south of the country there are already 148 dead, 127 missing and 806 injured.
In the most affected region, Rio Grande do Sul, at least 147 deaths were reported, and in the state of Santa Catarina one death.
According to the latest Civil Defense bulletin, the rains and floods have spread in Rio Grande do Sul affecting 447 municipalities out of 497 and some 2.12 million inhabitants.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a two-day state visit to China this week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed Tuesday, in what is expected to be another show of unity between the two allies against the U.S.-led Western global order.
