The Brazilian government pledged some 10 billion dollars to rebuild Rio Grande do Sul, where the delivery of humanitarian aid was intensified on Thursday to help the population without housing, electricity or water after the historic floods.
Extreme poverty in Peru during Boluarte's government already exceeds pandemic levels
Overall, the official poverty figure in the country governed by Dina Boluarte rose by one and a half percentage points: from 27.5% in 2022 to 29% in 2023. In other words, it is estimated that 9,780,000 Peruvians did not have the minimum economic income to cover the basic consumption basket last year. This is 3.2 million more people compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic year that registered 20.2%.
Nearly 55 million people face increased food and nutritional shortages in West and Central Africa during the now traditional three months of shortages that the region suffers every year, from June to August, the UN World Food Program (WFP) reported Friday.
