Andrew Koscharsky, Energy Markets Project Director at Australia’s Squadron Energy, shares his views on Singapore as a Asian clean energy hub at the operational level and at the sustainable finance levels. We compare and contrast two highly different clean energy markets Singapore and Australia and he evaluates key recent developments and challenges they each markets face. Other topics include LNG as part of the sustainability discussion as it is still the best firming capacity to help accommodate renewable energy into a grid. Also, Andrew discusses energy commercialisation, trading, and risk management and how clean energy projects look at de-risk while taking advantage of any potential upside over the long-term. While discussing all of these topics, as well as others, Andrew clearly divides up the physical aspects and the financial aspects .
ABOUT ANDREW. Andrew has worked in the Asian Energy Markets across Power, Gas, Coal and Retail for 21 years in various roles. For 10 years he worked at Origin Energy in Sydney, initially as a Spot Trader, managing the nomination of gas on the East Coast markets and dispatch of power stations to manage Origin’s significant spot and cross commodity exposure, then as a Derivatives Trader, building a long-term portfolio while hedging Origin’s 4 million retail customer accounts. In 2011, Andrew moved to Singapore to initiate the Castleton Commodities International expansion into Asia, building an Asian Energy Trading business from inception. This involved Wholesale and Trading, asset due diligence and also BD opportunities. He was Co-Founder of Jade Energy Holdings, pioneers of electricity Trading in Singapore and was involved in exchange and OTC traded markets. Andrew also co-founded iSwitch Energy, a carbon neutral retail business which was awarded “Fastest growing Energy Company in Asia” in 2020 by Straits Times.
