There are so many mics out there on the market today, it can be difficult to know what to listen for and how to choose the best mic for your home studio. On this episode, I'm excited to host Matt McGlynn, owner of RecordingHacks.com and Microphone-Parts.com. Matt is a microphone expert and DIY-microphone guru.

Matt shares how he got into home recording, what made him start building his own microphones, and what he's got in the pipeline at Roswell Pro Audio.

Matt also dishes out a whole bunch of recommendations: mics for beginners, USB vs. XLR mics, and his favorite mic overall. He gives us his best tips for mic placement and how to choose between dynamic, condenser, and ribbon mics. Matt's philosophy on mics can be summed up simply: use your ears to judge the mic - not your eyes.
