Identifying Your Unhelpful Thoughts In part 1, we learned that before you can do anything about a negative thought, the first step is to become aware of it. Just start noticing all the thoughts your mind creates during your day, especially when you are feeling anxious or stressed. Be aware of when you are participating in cognitive distortions where the stakes.
