“I write about flawed characters, not heroes. I’m drawn to those who observe, the ones who seek to avoid conflict, who prefer to leave well enough alone. When events force them to make a choice, I like to examine what influences their choice, and how they deal with the consequences.”
The Unrighteous Brothers" 2016
This was a trip down memory lane. The characters were believable and the plot moved fast… I could not put this book down, once I started reading.”
t's the 1960s, and two Nashville boys, negotiating their way to manhood, chase women, love, sex, God's will, and the perfect rock-and-roll song ... maybe not in that order.
Best high school friends Brad Warren and Ronnie Lewis pull off foolish antics, start a rock band, and succumb to the wiles of older girls, yet obey the rules of their fundamentalist church. After graduation, they head off to bible college, where they push the limits, almost get expelled, and then get married, one having to, one wanting to. Their longtime bond survives loving the same woman, struggling with addiction and infidelity, hiding haunting secrets, dealing with illness and death, losing their faith, and finding it again, as they search for purpose in life and find their peace.
“The Unrighteous Brothers” is available in both print and e-version through Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, and e-book only at Smashwords.com.
You can also find it at Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tennessee.
In his strong debut novel, Jack Wallace gives us an intimate portrait of friendship over the long haul with all the push and pull of something near brotherhood — the growing pains, the love and resentment, and the ultimate faithfulness of two men who grow up together and whose lives are braided together irrevocably, men who decide their fate side-by-side. An excellent story in skilled hands."
