A Gold Medal winner that defied great odds, Jon Montgomery is a celebrated Canadian that won the Gold Medal in Skelton racing at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics - by beating out his closet opponent by 7/100th of a second. Jon celebrated his victory with his famous "beer walk" in Whistler BC; reflecting his zest for life, pride in being Canadian and love for great beer. He has gone on to become a compelling inspirational speaker and is the outgoing and engaging host of THE AMAZING RACE CANADA.

I'd love to really just talk about the journey of what it takes to become an Olympic champion.
JON: (08:16)
Well, I guess when you find yourself participating in a rather obscure, peripheral sport, when I first started, I started telling people what I was involved in. They thought, is that that rowing sport? And you're like, no, no, that's sculling; skeleton is something decidedly different than that. But, how you find yourself there for most of the people that do it is
JON: (08:41)
It's through an active approach, I think, to finding things that make you happy. And you're not going to do skeleton racing for any other reason, it's certainly not by accident. Let's just say that. And you don't find yourself on a skeleton sled, you just happen to be somewhere one day, you have to go, you have to make a pointed effort of trying it out and seeking what looks like from a bystander's perspective, just bat, you know, crazy. And something about that has to speak to you. So whatever has happened previous in your life, whether it's a set up because of wiring, whether it's set up because of previous exposures to adrenaline inducing type of affairs and events, you do it for either sheer excitement or as a vehicle and a means to an end. And mine was both because those sorts of things spoke to who I was as an individual.
THOMAS: (13:01)
Did you, did you have it in your head that you wanted to be an Olympic athlete and then you sought something you could do is like, did that come before the actual discovery of skeleton or, you know, was it the other way around?
JON: (13:15)
That's 100%. That pathology, I wanted desper
