Penn State football’s first official visit weekend starts this Friday, May 31. But even before his first chance to host his top targets in an official capacity, wide receiver’s coach Marques Hagans is on the hot seat with many fans. The team’s struggles to generate separation and a consistent passing game in 2023 tanked the team’s best chance to defeat Ohio State and led to another low-wattage performance against Michigan.

But this is the first year that Hagans will have a chance to develop relationships with and recruit players that fit his vision and style for the team. But by now, we have a much better idea of what that style of player looks like.

Tyseer Denmark and a Big 33 Recap

The Pennsylvania squad dominated the annual Big 33 game this past weekend, winning 31-7, scoring all of their points in the first half. Four-star Penn State led that scoring barrage commit Tyseer Denmark, who had three touchdowns on four targets in the game.

We’ll discuss what we learned from that performance and how Denmark showed some skills at a new position that we hadn’t seen before. We’ll also review the day of Kenny Woseley, who played cornerback for the Pennsylvania team.

Finally, we’ll highlight Greg Pickel’s latest Penn State football column for Blue White Illustrated.

Tracing the evolution of receiver recruiting

Next, we’ll move on to our main topic, Penn State wide receiver recruiting. With three important recruits visiting the program this weekend, it’s important to understand what Hagans is trying to build with the Nittany Lions. We’ll discuss his coaching style, what he emphasizes, and how he likely came to lean on those traits.
