Growing up in Shrule, Co. Mayo, Maria Walsh dreamed of winning All Ireland's more than pageants but fast forward a few years and she found herself standing with her newly acquired tiara as the belle of the ball in the Dome in Tralee. Public attention refocused on her sexuality, the first openly gay woman to have worn the crown at Ireland's most famous festival. Maria joins Breifne Earley to discuss her love of Mayo, All Ireland glory in school, studying journalism, how missing out on the Underdogs (an Irish reality sports television programme) kickstarted her media career with ShinAwiL before moving to the Big Apple to spread her wings. She talks about kicking sheep, Murder She Wrote, wellbeing and meditation as well as the grandest entry of them all, skydiving through the clouds in Tralee. As always on the show she’ll be sharing her tips and advice on how people can chase their own goals and dreams.
