Ok Ladies, Let’s Get to It: If you are dealing with the stress of being passed over at work, I’m going to share my 3-step process of how YOU can face this challenge head-on:
Step 1: How to Handle it - Nearly everyone has been overlooked for a job they deserved, and many have come back stronger and more successful. These four steps will help you get over the rejection you’re facing so you can continue kicking butt at your job: 1) Redirect your negative emotions, 2) Be proactive and seek direct feedback, 3) Use it as a learning opportunity, 4) Figure out your next steps
Step 2: Figure out the Why - In most organizations, promotions are governed by unwritten rules—the often fuzzy, intuitive, and poorly expressed feelings of senior executives regarding individuals’ ability to succeed in C-suite positions. As an aspiring executive, you might not know those rules, much less the specific skills you need to develop or demonstrate to follow them. The bottom line: You’re left to your own devices in interpreting feedback and finding a way to achieve your career goals.
Step 3: What you Can Do About it - Here are four steps to take if you’ve been passed over for a promotion: 1) Process your disappointment, 2) Go back to the WHY you weren’t chosen, 3) Chart a path forward with realistic goal setting, 4) Reframe your disappointment as an opportunity.
