We are FINALLY underway with track and field action at the Paris Olympics.

On this first episode of TORCH TALK (presented by Asics), Chris Chavez, Eric Jenkins, Mitch Dyer, Aisha Praught-Leer and Katelyn Hutchison unpack the first day of action including:

– Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei set a new Olympic record with a time of 26:43.14 to finally get his Olympic gold medal in the event. Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi closing hard to snag the silver medal by two-hundredths of a second. Grant Fisher holding on against some titans to run 26:43.46 and become just the 4th American man to medal in the event.

– Team USA's mixed 4x400m relay broke the world record in 3:07.41 in the heats. They could break their own world record again tomorrow.

– Sifan Hassan started her 5000m/10,000m/marathon triple and looks better than we expected for the 5000m.

– We officially got introduced to the repechage rounds with the heats of the 800m and 1500m.

– Germany’s Leo Neugebauer leads the decathlon after Day 1.

– Reigning Olympic champion Valarie Allman topped discus qualifying with 69.59m

– Jamaica’s Shaniecka Ricketts led the triple jump's first round with a 14.47m leap but it was Keturah Orji, who made some history for the U.S. as a three-time Olympic finalist.
