Sam Liebowitz, will discuss all types of topics to help you raise your awareness.

[EPISODE] The Real Truth About Marriage

This week, on The Conscious Consultant Hour, Sam welcomes Editor, Director, and Film Maker Roger Nygard.

Roger has directed TV series like THE OFFICE and THE BERNIE MAC SHOW, and edited Emmy-nominated episodes of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and VEEP, including the upcoming seasons this year.

Roger Nygard’s indie features include the notorious documentary, TREKKIES, the gritty comedy-drama, SUCKERS, a documentary about Alien enthusiasts, SIX DAYS IN ROSWELL, and the spiritual documentary, THE NATURE OF EXISTENCE -- or: what's the point of everything?

THE NATURE OF EXISTENCE, was an official selection of twenty film festivals, won multiple best documentary awards, and was released theatrically in 15 U.S. cities. Afterward, Nygard looked for a new topic, something even more inexplicable than existence itself, and only one topic fit that challenge: THE TRUTH ABOUT MARRIAGE, was screened at film festivals in 2019, and was released this year.

Roger talks about how marriage as we know it came about and why its origins mostly lie with men aiming to protect their egos and control the sexuality of women. The two then briefly discuss polygamy.

Roger outlines the duality between the energies and then speaks to the current situations and statuses of the participants in his documentary. Segment 4

The final segment begins with Roger discussing his book based off of the documentary before Sam inquires Roger’s ideas about the growing presence of non-traditional relationships in today’s world, Roger answering with how polyarmous relationships require honesty more than anything as well as picking and choosing when and when not to be honest, suggesting buffering your honesty with sensitivity. He goes into the nature of attraction, whether it is spiritual or physical, and how people should approach finding a soulmate and briefly going into the science behind how two people become attracted to each other biologically. The segment closes with Roger talking about how the book adaptation of the movie came about, the reactions he’s received from the film, and a potential sequel with the subject shifting towards gay marriage.
