In this episode Maxwell Cooper, M.D. interviews John Adler, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery at Stanford University, inventor of the CyberKnife, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Accuray, and Co-Founder and CEO of Cureus and Zap Surgical. Dr. Adler tells the story of how he became inspired to develop radiosurgery technology while doing a fellowship in Sweden with Dr. Leksell, father of radiosurgery. Dr. Adler discusses how he invented the CyberKnife technology through starting his first company Accuray. He also talks about balancing his medical innovation endeavors with a busy neurosurgery practice at Stanford and how to conduct innovation projects within an academic hospital. Dr. Adler provides advice for aspiring entrepreneurs on find the right business partners, raising money, and how to execute at each stage. Lastly, Dr. Adler discusses his latest companies, Cureus and Zap Surgical.
