"To be vulnerable is to be courageous, for vulnerability stands defiantly in the face of fear, accepting the uncertainty of possible attack or compromise." - Aletheia Luna

Vulnerability - Why it is important

It doesn't sound fun does it? Being vulnerable. It involves a willingness to accept the emotional risk that comes from being open & willing to love & be loved. It is well worth the effort.

Author Brene' Brown (she is all everywhere, youtube etc.) suggests that vulnerability is an important measure of COURAGE and that it allows you to be seen and understood by the people who are important in your life. She adds, that it serves as a way to be more authentic.

But so many fear vulnerability, why, if it is a good thing? It is associated with a number of challenging emotional states, like : disappointment, shame and grief. The fear of rejection and fear of abandonment are also related to vulnerability.

The truth about vulnerability is that it is not a weakness; it is in fact a strength. We need to embrace it knowing that it will make our lives more full in the long run. Think about it. Saying I love you to someone is being vulnerable. So is trying something new, or sharing a difficult experience, all are you being vulnerable. While at first you want to avoid all of these things, they can actually be extremely rewarding. Ultimately, it is living a genuinely fulfilling life.

The emotional benefits of being vulnerable are:

- Greater strength: When you put yourself in situations where you feel vulnerable, it will boost your confidence and belief in your ability to handle challenging situations. (resilient)

- Stronger relationships: It helps deepen your compassion, empathy and connection with others in your life.

- Improved SELF-acceptance: It allows you to accept and embrace different aspects of yourself and build greater confidence.

Break time from talking and let's listen to this:

To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable; to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength."

You got this…I believe in you.
