In this debut episode of The Design Psychologist, I, Thomas Watkins, share my vision for this podcast and outline what listeners can look forward to in our exploration of the intersection of psychology and design.
PURPOSE
With eight years of experience running 3Leaf, a UX design agency, I have seen firsthand the critical role that an understanding of human behavior plays in creating meaningful user experiences. This podcast is born out of my belief that psychology is an often overlooked aspect of design that can significantly enhance how end users interact with products and services.
Throughout our discussions, I aim to illuminate how design transcends aesthetics and mere functionality. It’s fundamentally about understanding the motivations and behaviors of users, and this comprehension allows us to craft experiences that cater directly to their needs and preferences.
By fostering this understanding, I aspire to elevate the standard of design practices within the industry and encourage a more psychologically-informed approach among designers.
FORMAT
The structure of the podcast will be thoughtfully curated, featuring 26 episodes in Season 1, released every other week.
The format alternates between solo episodes, where I delve into specific concepts within UX design, and interview episodes featuring prominent experts who adeptly apply psychological principles in their work. I anticipate a diverse range of topics, from UX design to curriculum, interior, and organizational design, exploring wherever psychology intersects with design to enhance user experience.
GUESTS
Our guests will be carefully selected for their demonstrated application of behavioral science in their projects, ensuring that the insights shared are grounded in rigorous methodologies and research. I believe this approach will provide listeners with practical advice to enrich their understanding of psychological principles and their implementation in design practices, particularly for UX designers seeking to deepen their knowledge in this critical area.
AUDIENCE
This podcast is tailored for various audiences: UX designers looking to excel in their craft, psychologists eager to transition into the design sphere, and anyone interested in how behavioral science can inform design decisions. I invite listeners to engage with us; your feedback is invaluable, and if you have topics or potential guests in mind, I encourage you to reach out.
CONNECT
As we embark on this journey together, I hope to foster a community where insights and experiences are shared, leading to more intuitive, effective, and delightful user experiences across numerous design disciplines.
