Appreciation not Appropriation with Tyler Housholder
Manage episode 378285886 series 3493432
A different title may be The Drummer's Drummer Mindset.
Tyler is a percussionist with Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast as well as several other projects in/around Asheville, North Carolina. In tandem with music he's also a family man, woodworker, and architect. He's spent an incredible amount of time not only honing his craft but researching and learning about the roots of the music and instruments that fascinate him. Drumming can be spiritually healing and Tyler does not shy away from that fact.
His reverence and love for the art has afforded him many opportunities to study with musical/cultural ambassadors like Babatundi Olatunji.
Listen to the conversation to hear the gripping story of how tragic institutional violence against black citizens of New York gave him a more direct point of view than many of us in a privileged majority society might ever experience.
