On this week's episode, local boxing legend Leo Sammarelli, founder of the Westcoast Wheelchair Adapted Boxing and Fitness Association, joins host Coach J on the Empire Boxing Podcast. Prior to his paralysis Leo was a WBC Amateur Canadian lightweight champion (2014), Golden gloves lightweight champion (2013), and Italian interregional boxing champion (2011). Leo talks about his boxing journey from his start at a young age in Italy with his father before continuing the sport in Canada. He discusses the experiences both in and out of the wheelchair and the transition he had to go through to re-learn to box. Jana and Leo discuss sparring Lomachenko, his commitment to building adaptive boxing, inspiring other athletes and being an overall sports ambassador not just in BC, but in Canada as a whole.
