Want to know how to emotion coach your child? Help your child to create a healthy understanding of their emotions and create a healthy connection with them?

In this week's episode we do just that. It is only human nature to want to have a close and secure bond with your child and we all try so hard to be the best parents we can be. It can be challenging to understand our child’s emotions and to deal with our own when we see our own children distressed or upset. We all want to help guide our children to develop a healthy relationship with their emotions both the easy and the more challenging ones.

In this week's episode of The Expert Guide to Parenthood Podcast we invite Child Behaviour and Emotion Coach Expert and co-author of the Tuning into Toddlers, Teens and Tuning in to Kids programs Dr Christiane Kehoe to discuss emotion coaching, what it is and how do we do it and ways in which we can build a strong connection with our children.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What emotion coaching is and why it is an important skill for parents to develop
  • How to emotion coach
  • How children develop an understanding of their emotions
  • Our role as parents in helping our children understand their emotions and behaviour
  • How as parents can we help our little ones deal with intense feelings and difficult emotions
  • At what age little ones start to regulate some of the tougher emotions
  • Why children are hardwired to seek connection and how as parents we can meet these needs
  • Dr Christiane's top tips to fostering a deeper connection with your child
