Dr. Phillips was the first black professor at George Fox University and her kids were the first black students to enroll in Newberg’s public schools, back when racism was much more prevalent than today. But despite the opposition and racism she and her family faced, Dr. Phillips decided to respond with love and forgiveness and continues to facilitate reconciliation to this day. Dr. Phillips has also written numerous books and founded Women, Men, Youth of Purpose International. In today’s conversation, Dr. Phillips and I discuss her life growing up, how she got to Newberg, her favorite books, and how her organization is touching lives today.
