On this episode of The Impactful Engineer, we explore the importance of emotional intelligence in engineering leadership. Our guest Doug discusses how perception and body language play a big role in shaping our interactions with others, and how identifying these cues can create more efficient work and personal relationships. We also discuss the lack of good leadership in engineering that perpetuates itself and the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for team members. Additionally, we talk about Doug Howard's Leadership Accelerator for Engineers, which focuses on self-awareness and understanding human psychology to connect better with others and build relationships. Join us to learn how to be more mindful of others' perceptions by tapping into different sides of the brain and being more intentional in our approach to leadership.

Doug Howard is a licensed engineer with a background in structural engineering. He entered the engineering job force in 2008, right when the housing market crash occurred, making it difficult to find job opportunities in commercial construction. Instead, he joined a small startup with around 10-15 employees. However, during his tenure, the company grew exponentially, reaching hundreds of employees by the time he left. This unique experience allowed Doug to grow alongside the company, giving him opportunities in leadership and expanding his perspective on engineering and team management. Through this experience, Doug developed a deep appreciation for effective leadership in the engineering industry.

Doug helps ambitious engineers learn how to become impactful engineer leaders through his coaching program. Definitely check him out at the links below!
