Have you ever found yourself in a situation where someone has come to you with something that you think they’re needing input or advice on, only to find out the opposite?

Sometimes as friends/partners (but especially as coaches or mentors), we find ourselves sharing what we see as helpful thoughts, tips or solutions, when in reality not everyone wanted, needed or even asked for our help.

Often someone is only looking to share, vent or rant about a situation that has come up in their life. They really don’t need us to launch into “coaching mode” or to be told what to do about it.

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we’re talking about being more aware of our desire to “be helpful” or give unsolicited advice, where our input is actually desired and when we should just keep our big mouth shut - including on social media platforms.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t offer our POV if invited, but rather we should start from a place of inquiry and curiosity rather than one of the all-knowing “ego” authority.

Perhaps consider that the next time someone comes to you with their concerns don’t just jump in there all ablaze, “spilling your helpfulness” all over them. Ha!

Instead, remember the cheeky words, “Nobody asked you, Karen!” and come from a willingness to listen and learn. We were given two ears and only one mouth for a reason, so let’s use them accordingly.

KK's Key Takeaways:

• The “G” Rule (2:15)

• He Didn’t Ask To Talk To Me (7:12)

• Business Of Giving Advice (16:36)

• Getting Sloppy With Boundaries (21:58)

• The Power To Know Themselves (29:20)
