First, they run through updates on the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Trump’s stolen documents case, Israel’s continuing slaughter of Gaza in the face of supposed ceasefire negotiations, Trump’s polling, the RNC, Biden’s candidacy, Giuliani’s legal (and now financial) woes, Houston’s devastating (and ongoing) power outage, and the DOJ vs. RealPage, before beginning their deep dive into the stunning security failures that led the Trump assassination attempt, parsing through multiple videos and first-hand accounts that demonstrate awareness of the shooter by both citizens and security officials in the leadup to the first shots. Continuing with the coverage, Sam and Emma walk through the developing background information on the shooter, the history of presidential assassination attempts and their various motives, and the evolving narrative around the shooting, with accusations against Biden, arguments for unity, and good ol’ fashioned DEI-dog whistling all coming from just the GOP. Next, they look to the news cycle of yesteryear as they tackle the growing resignation amid the Democratic establishment over the losing battle that is Biden’s candidacy, Biden’s (likely empty) promises of a progressive second term, and what we can make of the influence of progressives like Bernie and AOC amid this mess.
