27. Ever wondered what it's like to learn to surf in your 30s? That's my story. I've never been the athletic type, and every single time I've tried a new sport, it's taken years to become somewhat proficient. The funny thing about surfing is that it's taught me more about life, purpose, meaning, and business than any other skill I've picked up along the way.
So for those of you who live to surf (or if you simply wonder what it would be like), we're going to have an all-surfing episode today! We'll talk about 15 lessons I've learned from surfing that we can all apply to life and business.

  1. It's all about the journey.
  2. Your attitude and energy set the stage.
  3. Learn the ocean and conditions.
  4. Just paddle out!
  5. Commit to the wave.
  6. Wave size is relative.
  7. You will never look like an Instagram surfer - just accept it!
  8. Waves last for only a few seconds, even when time stands still.
  9. Respect the lineup: locals rule the break.
  10. Know your limits.
  11. Learn HOW to wipe out.
  12. Look where you want to go.
  13. Choose your waves strategically.
  14. Never stop learning.
  15. The best surfer is the one having the most fun!
